To sell notes online, you need three things: notes in a format people can download (usually a PDF), a place where students already ask you for them, and a way to take payment before the file opens. For most students in India that place is Telegram: class groups, batch channels and DMs from juniors asking "bhai, notes milenge?". With Tiny Shops you sell right there. Attach the PDF in the chat, write /sell 50 Physics Class 12 β Optics as the caption, and send it. The student pays 50 Telegram Stars, the bot delivers the file, and you get a message saying who bought what. This guide covers how to prepare notes that sell, the one-time setup, pricing, and how to avoid giving your notes away for free.
Selling other files, such as ebooks, presets or templates, works the same way: see how to sell digital products on Telegram.
Where you can sell notes online#
| Option | How you get paid | What you give up |
|---|---|---|
| A notes marketplace (Stuvia, Notesale and similar) | The site pays out after it takes its commission | Your price, your buyers' contacts, and often half the sale |
| A course platform (Graphy, Payhip and similar) | Card or UPI checkout on your own page | Setup time, and you still have to bring buyers there |
| Telegram chats you are already in | Stars, paid inside Telegram | Telegram's Stars rules (below) |
Marketplaces help when nobody knows you yet. If juniors already message you for notes, a marketplace is just an extra step between you and them. Telegram skips that step: the student who asked is the student who pays, in the same chat.
Prepare notes that sell#
- One subject, one file. "Organic Chemistry β Reactions, Class 12" sells better than "all my chem notes". A student searches for a chapter, not for your whole notebook.
- Scan, don't photograph. A free scanner app (Google Drive scan, Adobe Scan, or the Notes app on iPhone) gives flat, readable pages. Merge them into one PDF.
- Put a cover page first. Subject, chapter, exam (CBSE, JEE, NEET, university semester), page count, and your name or handle. The cover is your advertisement when the file gets shared.
- Add page numbers and a contents page for anything over 10 pages.
- Keep the file under 10 MB if you plan to send it from the dashboard. From your phone, Telegram's own file limits apply.
Before the first sale: a one-time setup#
- A Tiny Shops shop on the chat format. In sign-up, under Where will you sell?, choose In a Telegram chat.
- A bot. Choose Create it for me, or I already have one and paste the token from @BotFather.
- The bot added to your Telegram account under Settings β Telegram Business β Chatbots. Turn on every switch under Manage Messages, including the one that lets the bot delete messages. Telegram Premium is not needed. The full walkthrough is in Telegram for business.
The delete permission is what keeps your notes paid. Your message reaches the student before the bot can act on it, so the bot removes your original and leaves only the locked copy. Without that permission the bot refuses to sell, because your PDF would stay in the chat for free.
How to sell your notes from your phone#
- Open the chat with the student in Telegram.
- Attach the PDF.
- In the caption, write
/sell, the price in Stars, and a name:/sell 50 Physics Class 12 β Optics (24 pages). - Send it.
The bot swaps your message for a card with the name and a Pay 50 β button. The student pays inside Telegram, the bot sends them the PDF a second later, and you receive π° Sale: Rahul (@rahul_k), Β«Physics Class 12 β Optics (24 pages)Β», 50 β. The sale also appears on the Sales page in your dashboard.

Notes written on an iPad or in GoodNotes can be sent as a PDF export the same way. If you only have photos of pages, send the best page as a photo with /sell and it becomes a paid photo the student unlocks in place, but a single PDF is easier for the buyer to keep.
How to price notes#
Stars are Telegram's in-app currency. Students buy them inside Telegram, and you are credited at Telegram's developer rate of about $0.013 per Star.
| Notes | Example price | You get, before fees |
|---|---|---|
| One chapter, 10β20 pages | 25β50 β | about $0.33β0.65 |
| A full subject for one exam | 100β200 β | about $1.30β2.60 |
| A complete semester or revision pack | 250β500 β | about $3.25β6.50 |
Look at what similar notes cost on the marketplaces you know, convert, and round to a simple number. Low prices sell more copies to students; a solid revision pack before exams can carry a higher one.
Keep your notes from spreading for free#
You cannot stop a buyer from forwarding a PDF once they have it, on any platform. What you can control:
- The original never stays in the chat. The bot deletes your unpaid file as soon as it sees it, and refuses to sell when it is not allowed to delete.
- Only the student you offered it to can pay. If they forward the pay card, Telegram refuses the payment for anyone else before charging them.
- Your cover page travels with the file. Put your Telegram handle on it. Every forwarded copy then points new students back to you.
- Send a free preview first. A photo of two sample pages answers "are these good?" without giving the file away.
Where the money goes and what it costs#
The Stars land on your store bot's balance, the same as any Telegram bot sale. Telegram can hold earned Stars for up to 21 days before you can withdraw them through Fragment. Tiny Shops does not hold your Stars.
Stars sales pay the plan's percent from the first sale: 5% on Free ($0 a month), 3% on Starter ($9.99), 1.5% on Pro ($29), 0.7% on Scale ($79).
Tips for selling notes#
- Post the list, sell in DMs. Share a list of chapters you have in your class group or channel with "DM me for any of these". Each DM becomes a sale with one
/sell. - Reply fast. A business bot can only reply within 24 hours of the student's last message, so send the offer while they are still waiting for it.
- Bundle before exams. The week before an exam, a "full revision pack" sells better than single chapters.
- Update and resend. If you fix mistakes or add solved questions, say so in the caption: "v2, with 2025 paper solutions".
FAQ#
How can I sell my notes online?
Turn them into one PDF per subject, then sell it where students already ask you for notes. In Telegram, attach the PDF with the caption /sell 50 Name. The student pays 50 Stars and the bot delivers the file.
Can I sell handwritten notes online? Yes. Scan them into a PDF with a free scanner app and sell the PDF. Readable scans sell; blurry photos get refund requests.
Is selling notes legal? Selling notes you wrote yourself is generally fine. Do not sell copies of textbooks, coaching material or a teacher's handouts, and check your college's rules on selling course material.
Do students need a card or UPI to pay? They pay with Telegram Stars, which they buy inside the Telegram app through the app store's usual payment methods.
Do I need a website or a Telegram channel? No. You sell in the private chats you already have. A channel or group helps you announce what you have.
How much can I earn by selling notes? It depends on how many students know you. With 50 β per chapter, 40 sales in an exam month is about $26 before fees, with no extra work after the notes are written.
